CARE & MAINTENANCE

Glassware Care Guide

Hand-blown borosilicate looks delicate. It is built for real daily use when cared for correctly.

Material: What You Are Holding

Every Vitra piece is hand-blown from borosilicate glass, the same material used in laboratory beakers and premium cookware.

  • 3.3x more thermal shock resistance than ordinary glass.
  • Higher surface hardness for long-term clarity.
  • Chemically inert, so it will not absorb flavor, stain, or leach.

Daily Care: Drinkware

  • Dishwasher top rack is safe for single-wall and double-wall cups.
  • Microwave safe when no metal trim is present.
  • Boiling tea, espresso, and iced drinks are fine.
  • Hand wash with normal dish soap and a soft sponge.
  • Avoid direct flame, steel wool, harsh cleaners, wet stacking, and hard drops.

Candle Holder & Oil Lamp Care

  • Freeze holders for 30 minutes to remove solid wax cleanly.
  • Use hot water, dish soap, and non-scratch sponge for residue.
  • Never scrape wax with a knife or metal tool.
  • Use paraffin-based lamp oil and trim wicks before lighting.
  • Extinguish oil lamps by snuffing instead of blowing.
